THE MUSIC OF OUR LIVES

POETRY IN MOTION!
CD Covers0033

Elvis, The Eagles, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Ricky Nelson, Celine Deon, Neal Diamond, Whitney Housten, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Righteous Brothers, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and the list just keeps on coming.

Can you believe the list of GREAT musical artists we in our lifetimes were blessed with?  I think back about all of the moments of my life and I remember various songs that went along with each of them.

I happen to love music.  All types and forms of music.  Classic Rock, Country,  New Age, Gospel, Classical and more.  There isn’t a type of music, that if done well and with soul, I didn’t like.  I still like to sit back and listen to some of the greatest music of all time.

I play an instrument and love to learn all of the songs that I hear.  I sometimes think that I will be able to play all of the music I love before I check out.   That day hasn’t come, checking out that is, and therefore I still have time to listen to, reminisce and remember all of the moments that helped mold me into who I am.

I remember driving my own car for the very first time and the feeling of complete freedom I felt listening to my favorite group or singer.  The windows all open and the radio as loud as I could bare.  I was in heaven.  Or at least what I perceived heaven to be at that time.

Music moves your very being.  It allows you to become immersed in your situation and gets you through times of your life that may not be as pleasant as we would like.  I guess, when I decided to blog about music, I wanted all of us to remember just what music meant to each and every one of us.  I know, if you are totally honest, you all have your favorite artist, favorite song,  favorite moment in your life that was enhanced by the sound that moved you at that moment in time.

Music… it moves us, it allows us to remember moments of our lives, it puts us in the spirit of true worship of our Creator, it reminds us of moments gone by.  I for one  thank God that I was a part of my generation.  No, not because I am aging and beginning to feel its’ consequences.  But rather because I know that I lived at a time when music moved us. It put us into a mood of quietness, excitement, solitude, reflection and motivation.  It just depended on the song or artist you were listening to at that moment in time.

Music…  The songs and artists of my time.  They are great memories and because of our search for new melodies, continue to allow us to pass through this journey we call life with more gusto.  You too will remember those songs and artists one day with fondness.

It’s free too.  You need only tune in, plug in, put in and listen.

NOW IS THE TIME…

DSC_0004

There has never been a time as good as the present.

I have heard this many times in my life and each time it was meant to encourage me in the decision I was facing.  Well, we have passed decision time when it comes to buying or selling your home.

Do you realize that interest rates are low.  The lowest in the history of financing your home.  I, as some of you may remember, was a commercial banker for most of my professional life.  I remember the 70’s and the interest rates on 1st mortgage loans was 4%.  Today, we are seeing rates in the 3’s.  Can you believe it?  But wait, this is not the only item that makes this market so unique.  We also have a pent up demand matched by some of the best booms in housing in recent memory.  Put these two together and we see fast home sales, low financing rates which allows us the opportunity to purchase that dream home we always wanted.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

I urge you, no, I am telling you, now is the time to list your home and move to that better neighborhood, better and larger home, more bells and whistles or whatever.  Don’t wait. Don’t miss the market.

Inventory of existing homes is scarce.  This means a better price for your home.  It also means that you need to act quickly once you do find your next home.  It won’t last long if it is priced right and has all of the “Stuff” people want.

There has never been as good a time as the present.   This statement is meant for you.  What are you waiting for?  Call me today so that I may show you what your home is worth and also find that next place you call home.   You will be very happy you did.

I REMEMBER MOMMA…

MOMMA

Momma, mom, ma, mother or any other name you assigned to the most important person in your life.  The one who bore you for those agonizing nine months.  She is also the one who nurtured you,  cared for you, watched over you, but most importantly, Loved you unconditionally.  No matter what transpired in your life, your mother will forever be remembered  as the one person who loved you no matter what.  You may not always agree with her, obey her, like her, but you always knew that she loved you above all else.

My mom was a wonderful mom.  She was understanding, kind and always patient.  She never meddled in my life.  By this I mean, she always believed that one makes their own bed and once they do, they must lie in it.  In other words, their are consequences for your actions and what you choose will reap what you get.

Understanding was an understatement.  She always accepted me for who I was.

My mom left us in September of 2013.  I miss her terribly and now realize just how important she was in my life.  I think about her often and remember all of the great times we had.  I remember when I was a young boy, I was quite mischievous.  I once sat on  30 or more sewing needles that I had placed in a chair, pin side up, so that my older sister, Lu Anne, would sit on them.  I forgot that I had placed them there and sat on them myself. One brook off and I had to have surgery to remove the 1 inch piece that was lodged in my butt.  OUCH!!!  Another time, I was running around and when she got angry with me, she said, Larry, stop and get over here.  Take your licking like a man.  And wham, a broom came flying across my legs.  The broom broke in two and the laughter began.  I did deserve the punishment by the way.

In any event, now that she is gone, I feel sad that I didn’t stop in at her apartment more often and just visit.  If only for an hour.  I wish that I would have called her more often just to tell her that I loved her.  I wish, I wish, I wish…

I urge all of you to call your moms.  Tell them that you think about them and that you love them.  One day, and that day will come, you won’t have the opportunity to do so.

Yes, I have very fond memories of my mother.  I loved her deeply and admired her for what she accomplished in life.

This mother’s day, say I love you to your mom.  And, if she has passed, remember all of the great times and the fun that she created in your life.  Remember that she gave of herself for you in more ways than you may remember.

MOMS,

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Your Crossroad

CD Covers0079

Haight-Ashbury street in San Francisco, CA.  A crossroads which made an impact in the lives of many of us.  The place of the beginning of a movement so powerful that this country was forever changed.  Some feel for the better while still others felt it was for the worse.

It has often been said that all of us will reach a cross road in our life and once we do, we will be forced to choose a path.  Some take the path of least resistance while others take the path least traveled.

The path of least resistance is the one that is the easiest to follow.  The path with few or no obstacles to deter or discourage you.  One that allows for you to coast on to the next chapter of life.  Whether you are a professional, a skilled employee, a laborer or any walk of life that you have either chosen or were placed into by circumstance.  This path will allow you many hours of leisure time.  Time to just sit and relax.  Watch TV.  Listen to music.  Go to movies.  You get the picture.  The final outcome after years of following the path of least resistance will likely be one of disappointment.  Looking back on your life, you may be surprised to see that it was not so rewarding after all.  A life filled with memories that may not be too pleasant to remember.

Now, let’s look at the path least traveled.  This path is the one that few take.  Others don’t want to walk this walk because it is filled with obstacles.  It is the one that makes you stop, stumble, learn and continue to struggle.  It is the one that is best suited for you and you alone.

It has been said that all of us possess a specific talent.  Something that we are very good at, something will define you.  The movie “City Slickers” brings to mind a quote from one of the more memorable scenes.  It is the one where Jack Palance and Billy Crystal are riding alone looking for stray cattle.  Billy is afraid of Jack due to his demeanor and his harsh ways.  As they are riding along, Billy discovers that Jack is a man just like any other man. He chose to live the life of a lonely cowboy even though it was one of the hardest ways to make a living.  Jack talked about a woman with whom he fell deeply in love with.  But, unlike most of us who would pursue this relationship, Jack was happy just to see her.  The highlight of the scene is when Jack says to Billy, “Just seeing the silhouette of her in front of the sun was the most he could expect.”  Billy then says to Jack,  “no, no.  That is not supposed to be the way this ends.”

Jack turns to Billy and says, ” we all have one thing that makes us who we are and what we are.  Just one thing.”  Billy, puzzled, looks at Jack and askes, “what, what one thing?”  Jack replies, “That’s for you to find out.”  He then rides off ahead of the bewildered Billy.

The moral of this story is that we all have to chose our path in life.  The path least traveled? The one that is more difficult but can lead to more rewards than you could have ever imagined?  Or, the path of least resistance.  The one that will give you ample free time. Time, that once gone, will come back to haunt you by you remembering what opportunities you may have missed out on.

Which path are you taking?
